Rihanna Defends Chris Brown Reunion, 'I'm Going to Do What I Want to Do'

Rihanna is responding to critics who’ve blasted her for keeping in contact with her ex, Chris Brown. The 24-year-old pop singer is covering the latest issue of Elle and in the magazine she explains why she and Brown have not only been in contact but have decided to record new music. According to Rihanna it’s solely her decision, no one else’s. And while she’s yet to admit it herself, multiple sources claim that the pair’s been secretly hooking up for over a year.

“I respect what other people have to say. The bottom line is that everyone thinks different. It’s very hard for me to accept, but I get it. People end up wasting their time on the blogs or whatever, ranting away, and that’s all right. I don’t hate them for it,” she said.

Despite all the criticism, Rihanna stopped short of an apology and she tells Elle that she stands by her choices.

“Because tomorrow I’m still going to be the same person,” she said. “I’m still going to do what I want to do.”

She later went on to compare the thrill of a risky relationship with that of swimming with sharks, which she conquered while taping her film debut in Battleship.

“When you know you like a guy, or when you’ve been in love . . . That’s the same feeling you have swimming with sharks. That’s the same feeling you have when doing anything daring, risky, spontaneous or unpredictable. I think having those butterflies is the closest thing to being in love. … And when you play it safe, you don’t feel anything at all.”
