T.I. Returns to Prison ... Why Hip-Hop Won’t Miss Him

Rapper Clifford “T.I.” Harris turned himself in to authorities yesterday (Nov.1) as he began an 11-month sentence stemming from a September arrest and subsequent probation violation.

Harris, normally accustomed to large amounts of fanfare, received little as he pulled into the low-security Arkansas prison to serve his term. Ironically, this is the same prison where he initially served a 7-month sentence as a part of the plea deal handed down from a 2007 weapons charge.

While a small fraction of the music community is lamenting his absence from the scene, a growing majority of the general public is showing no sympathy for the 30-year-old rapper.

For many, this last slipup was the final straw for a rapper who has received multiple second chances, only to squander the opportunities.

Now I’m sure all will be forgiven once Harris is released, and he resumes the business of making hit records, just don’t expect the “Free T.I.” campaign to gather any steam this time around. –djr
