When it comes to most male rappers, love is usually not at the top of the list of things to rap about or indulge in. Instead, many rappers, including Waka Flocka Flame, rap about strippers, groupies and sexual conquests. But according to Waka, who made a name for himself with crunk stripper anthems, his life is no longer all about strippers and girls. Now, there is only one woman who has his full attention — his fiancée, Tammy Rivera.
During a recent interview with NiteCap with Peter Bailey, Waka explained that the women that he comes across on the road don’t compare to Rivera, whom he’s been dating since he first hit it big.
“Every girl I’m meeting now just want my check,” Waka said. “Like, they don’t even want to meet you. They don’t care two cents about what you got going on. Plus, I know her. That became my best friend. So I called her again like, ‘Yo, man. I want to go all the way.’ She like, ‘Yo, Waka. You still wanna be a boy.’ So I had to play the cat and the mouse game. Then it all worked out.”
Waka’s persistence paid off, and on May 31 he proposed to Rivera, who accepted his proposal. But it wasn’t just Rivera’s love and loyalty that convinced Waka to hold on to her; it was Rivera’s daughter as well. And although Waka admits that he was initially hesitant about dating a woman with a child, he explains that, even though the father of Rivera’s daughter is still a great dad, he eventually grew to see Rivera’s daughter as his own as well.
“It grew on me,” He explained. In the beginning, I was scared of it. I’m like, ‘Yo. I can’t date no girl with no baby. I’m still having fun.’ Next thing you know, it’s my daughter. I’m like, ‘Yo. This is my daughter. Let’s go get your hair done. Let’s do this. Let’s do that.’ Everything she do [sic] is cute. I could go outside, I could break my leg, when I come in the house, she’ll make you feel like your leg ain’t never break.”
And for Waka, the love he now has for his family is like nothing else he’s ever felt before.
“… It’s like a Holy Ghost feeling,” he says,
We commend Waka for working to create a stable blended family and we wish him the best in his marriage. Hopefully, he’ll thrive in it as much as the other rappers who settled down below.
