Lately, the Internet crowd-funding site GoFundMe has been the source of money for the killers of unarmed Black men. Notorious public killers such as George Zimmerman, the killer of unarmed teen Trayvon Martin; and Darren Wilson, the killer of unarmed teen Michael Brown benefited from GoFundMe campaigns.
The latest attempt at a social media fundraising campaign for killer cop Michael Thomas Slager, however, has been stopped by GoFundMe. According to Kelsea Little, GoFundMe’s public relations manager, “After review by our team, the campaign set up for Officer Slager was removed from GoFundMe due to a violation of our terms and Ccnditions,”
The unnamed organizer of the “Michael T. Slager Defense Fund” used Twitter to let supporters know about GoFundMe’s decision:
Now the organizers have moved their social media fundraising campaign to the website indiegogo.com. This company has no moral problems with the move and stated “Indiegogo allows anyone, anywhere to fund ideas that matter to them and just like other open platforms — such as Facebook, YouTube and Twitter — we don’t judge the content of campaigns as long as they are in compliance with our Terms of Use.”
