Romeo Miller caught a lot of flack last year when he posted pictures of his girlfriend, Toneata Morgan, to Instagram. Critics flocked to his page to tell him that Morgan, who is White, was only with the No Limit heir for his money and that he should date a Black woman. Although Miller has hinted that he’s no longer with Morgan, he still feels passionately about people being able to date whoever makes them happy, regardless of race.
“At that time, the person I was dating, she was a different race … she’s White, I’m Black. At that time in my life, I wasn’t aware that that was still a big deal,” he told rolling out. “There’s a lot more craziness going on in the world. A problem shouldn’t be whether I like somebody that’s Black, Chinese, Puerto Rican, or purple. If I love you, I love you for you.”
Romeo appeared on his new reality show, “Growing Up Hip Hop,” with Morgan and let her look at the criticism that they were receiving on social media. When asked why he spoke out about the hate on his show, Romeo said he wants to be someone who brings awareness to the fact that humanity has a long way to go before we finally understand that love doesn’t have a color.
“I think that’s the cool thing I was able to show on this TV show at that time in my life is that love is colorless at the end of the day, and you can’t live for other people,” he said. “I haven’t been in many relationships, but what I learned from that relationship is that you have to make sure you’re happy.”
