Will Smith has been dominating Hollywood both in front of and behind the cameras for the past several years. And though it seemed like the Fresh Prince had hung up his microphone for good, reports are surfacing that Smith is back in the studio working on his comeback album.
In a recent interview with XXL, in-demand hip-hop producer La Mar “Mars” Edwards, of Mars and 1500 or Nothin, told the hip-hop site that he’s working with the Smith on his upcoming album.
“We’re working on Will Smith, bringing him back. That’s actually him on the other line right now,” said Mars.
Mars, who produced the bulk of Game’s upcoming R.E.D. Album, including his controversial song “Martians vs. Goblins,” shared that he’s also working on soon-to-be-released rapper T.I.’s comeback album.
“Definitely, that’s my brother, we got a company together,” Mars said. “He’ll always be my brother, he’ll always be a friend and production partner. I’ll always be working with Tip. He’s been sitting for a year. So I’ve been thinking about my brother.”
Smith originally shot to fame as one-half of the legendary hip-hop duo DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, releasing five albums, including 1988’s He’s The DJ, I’m The Rapper and 1991’s Homebase, which featured the classic hip-hop hit “Summertime.”
As a solo artist, Smith released four more albums, including the nine-times platinum Big Willie Style in 1997, 1999’s Willennium, 2002’s Born to Reign and 2005’s Lost and Found.
