Donald Sterling apologizes for racist comments with more racist comments against Magic Johnson

Donald Sterling proved that he is oblivious to the ramifications of his actions and words. During an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, Sterling apologized for his racist comments by adding more racist comments.

He aimed his most vicious attack at Magic Johnson, and started by criticizing him for getting AIDS (Magic Johnson reportedly is HIV-positive).

“He acts so holy. He made love to every girl in every city in America, and he had AIDS, and when he had those AIDS, I went to my synagogue and I prayed for him, I hope[d] he could live and be well. I didn’t criticize him. I could have. Is he an example for children? What kind of a guy goes to every city, has sex with every girl, then he catches HIV? Is that someone we want to respect, and tell our kids about?” Sterling said.

Sterling also said that Magic and other blacks do not give back to the black community.

I think [Johnson] should be ashamed of himself,” Sterling said. “I think he should go into the background. But what does he do for the black people? He doesn’t do anything.”

Sterling also made a generalization about successful blacks who do not give back as much as the Jewish community.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver apologized to Magic Johnson for Sterling’s comments. The interview made it clear that Sterling and his family don’t deserve to have a place in the NBA.
