According to numerous reports, Hot 97 personality Mister Cee has resigned from New York’s most famous hip-hop radio station. XXL stated that Cee is leaving his post at Hot 97 immediately. His last show was Friday, Nov. 21.
Another Hot 97 mainstay, Funkmaster Flex, confirmed the news via Instagram. Flex showed support for Cee, while making it known that he was leaving.
“Resignation Alert!!!” Today will be @djmistercee last day on @hot97 !!! Tune in and wish him well.” posted Flex.
Cee is one of Hot 97’s longest-tenured personalities and made his name in the late ’80s and early ’90s alongside legendary emcees like Big Daddy Kane and the Notorious B.I.G. Cee was infamously caught up in two scandals involving him being arrested for soliciting male prostitutes and briefly resigned from Hot 97 in 2013 in the wake of the controversies.
Cee used Instagram to thank his now former colleagues.
“So every Friday after I would go off the air @ 1pm, I would stay @hot97 and prepare for my Friday Nite Live show,” Cee wrote. “I would sit in this corner of the studio all day on Friday. Somebody just sent me a pic showing me respect by not sitting in [the] corner today. Yall cats at Hot 97 is making me feel like Derek Jeter today. Thank you. Love you all.”
Cee’s current departure comes on the heels of other major departures for Hot 97. Another longtime personality, Angie Martinez, left this June, surprisingly moving to rival station Power 105 FM; and former music director Karlie Hustle also left the station shortly thereafter. Cee hasn’t offered any further explanation for his decision to step down.
