Last month, Atlanta rapper iLoveMakonnen was attacked while performing at SOBs in New York City, sparking rumors among fans that he’d been targeted by people associated with Brooklyn native Troy Ave. Troy had harsh words for iLoveMakonnen via Twitter a few weeks earlier; after he released a remix of the ATL star’s hit song “Tuesday.”

Talking to Hot 97, Troy downplayed any perceived animosity between he and the OVO rapper.

“Man that ish was all Twitter stuff. Man you know, everything is overhyped now,” Troy said about the beef.

In regard to the rumors that he was responsible for the onstage attack at SOBs, Troy said that, while he wasn’t involved at all, there could be people out there that feel loyal to him because of location.

“I mean, I mean a lot to my city,” Troy explained. “I know a whole bunch of people that be around a lot of people. It’s like if somebody is saying something about Drake, and you’re walking around the streets of Toronto, you don’t know who’s gonna feel a way about it.”

He went on to say that he’s never actually met iLoveMakonnen and only did the “Tuesday” remix because he liked the song.

“I never met the dude,” he said. “I just liked his record. So I remixed it. You know, I do keymixes. I do that to everybody’s record. Everybody else loves it.”
