As promised, pop-rock-R&B icon Prince has delivered a three-album set. As expected, the results are wildly uneven. LotusFlow3R is the Purple One’s guitar showcase and while the songs aren’t always great, his criminally underrated skills are on full display. He sounds most like his ‘80s self on MPLSound, and this set has the strongest songs of the three albums, though one can’t help but think that a few of these came from his Dirty Mind vaults. Elixir is a showcase for his latest protégé, Bria Valente. She’s pleasant, but the music is indistinctive and, in places, bland. –dusty culpepper
