After serving a seven year stretch for armed robbery and breaking and entering, Jonathan Huntley was released on November 25, 2010. The 25-year-old convicted felon decided re-branding of his newly freed personae was needed and commenced a marketing campaign. The only problem was his only marketable skill was robbing and stealing. But, no loss – everything looks good on a cotton t-shirt, right?
Huntley printed t-shirts displaying a mug shot with the caption “Making Money Is My Thang.” That is also why Mecklenburg County police are eternally grateful that in his haste to flee a home invasion, one of Huntley’s promotional t-shirts somehow fell out of the robbers getaway car. The homeowners told the police that two black males broke into the residence and stole “valuables, including a wallet and jewelry.” Huntley surrendered one day after Crime Stoppers made a plea to the community using the t-shirt in a marketing manner Huntley had not originally intended. If convicted of home invasion, Huntley will return to the custody of the North Carolina Department of Corrections.
Apparently, eating well during his brief respite from incarceration, a more fleshed out Huntley now has a new mug shot for future marketing campaigns. The parolee is pictured in the March 31 mug shot at left; on the right the older booking photo is seen on the seized t-shirt.
The American t-shirt industry employs 62073 people and earns 17 million a year in sales.
