How to Prepare for a Sexy Dominican Blowout

We’ve all been to that hair salon where you schedule an 8 a.m. appointment in attempt to “miss the crowd,” all while enduring hours of salon gossip, ordered-in lunch, and disappointed to still be one of the last customers out the door.

Well, Dominican hair salons are putting a halt to that and also becoming the new competition. These salons have been known to give your hair some serious swagger when it comes to their infamous silky Dominican blowouts, not to mention far lower prices that are attracting a growing number of black women. Here are some tips to keep in mind before you schedule your appointment for that sexy, Dominican blowout. –mckenzie harris

Bring your most effective products with you – Most of the Dominican salons do not use name-brand shampoos and conditioners, so don’t hesitate to bring in your own products that cater to your hair type. You can even pre-shampoo and condition your hair before hitting the salon if time is not on your side. Don’t forget to detangle and generously moisturize your strands as well.

Go for deep conditioner – Conditioning not only strengthens your hair but helps to bring damaged hair back to a healthy state. If your strands are a little brittle, avoid the blow dryer and opt for a wrap instead. The salons tend to use a lot of heat, including the dryer, blow dryer and flat iron.

Be Selective – Take initiative and be selective with your stylist during your salon experience. The beauty of these salons is that you don’t have to sit in any ol’ chair like you’re just another client. Do your research and make special requests, if necessary, to obtain the results you want without sacrificing the health of your hair. If you don’t know where to begin, start with a client with a similar hair texture as yours whose hair you loved when they got out of the chair.

Keep Up the Maintenance – Now that you got your swagger back, it’s time to maintain your blowout. Water and humidity are not your friends, so be sure to wrap your hair when showering and tie it with a scarf underneath your shower cap. Run a flat iron on a low temperature over pieces that may have gotten curly or frizzy throughout the night.

What has been your experience with Dominican hair salons? Were you happy with the end results?
