Combine three female artists singing about love and female empowerment with up-tempo tracks, factor in hip-hop flavor to that formula, and what do you get? Sophia Fresh, a trio ready to step into the spotlight as the next singing sensation. Each woman bringing her own sense of style in fashion and music, Sophia Fresh consists of Skye, Cole Rose and Crystal.

“I represent that rock-alternative girl who raps, Skye is more of the melodic R&B one, and Crystal has the pop-soul sound,” Cole Rose said.

The threesome and T-Pain, with whom the group worked closely on his label, Nappy Boy Entertainment, have decided to part ways. With T-Pain having been the album’s executive producer, the project now has been put on hold since the split. “We are in a transitional phase, so we are waiting to put out an album when all of our paper work is done,” said Cole Rose.

However, still signed to Atlantic Records and now under Co-Star Entertainment, the ladies are releasing their second mixtape, Sophia vs. Fresh. Hopefully, the song variety and storyline will satisfy their fans until the actual album drops. “The Sophia side is our love songs, ballads and emotional side in a good way and a sad way, but the Fresh side is more of our hip-hop element with a edgy side,” Skye explained.

Thankfully, none of T-Pain’s top hats have found their way on the ladies, who have been known to rock custom pieces made of neon duct-tape. The fresh and funky frocks have landed them in colorful garments guaranteed to catch the eye. Their look best can be described as a modern-day TLC, styled by Betsey Johnson with a hip street-chic flare.

“There really hasn’t been a girl group to come in and wreck the scene since Destiny’s Child, and we feel like we possess what it takes to bring that back,” Cole Rose shared.

The ladies of Sophia Fresh take pride in being themselves and protect their creative expression and individuality. They tell other artists to do the same. “Do what works best for you,” Cole Rose advised, “because a lot of people see what other people are doing and try to duplicate it.”

Skye, Cole Rose and Crystal have been singing together since middle school and have seen many girls come and go from the group, but they are happy that they are the last three standing. “We are all Christians and believe in giving back love above anything,” Cole Rose said. –callye peyrovi
