Rapper Nicki Minaj may have rocked the house this past Saturday, July 23, at this year’s annual Reggae Sumfest in Montego Bay, Jamaica, but the Young Money emcee also ruffled feathers with her expletive-laced performance, earning Minaj a fine.
According The Jamaican Observer, Minaj, who was performing in Jamaica for the first time, violated the island nation’s obscenity law with her profane lyrics and sexually charged dancing. Minaj was subsequently served a court summons by local police as she bid adieu to a packed crowd at the Catherine Hall Complex.
The Pink Friday rapper didn’t appear in court but was represented by Jamaican attorney Hugh Thompson, who entered an ex parte guilty plea on behalf of Minaj and paid the fine which amounted to J$1000 (the equivalent of 11 U.S. dollars).
Despite her (rather minor) run-in with the law, Minaj later gushed on Twitter about her newfound love for the island.
“OMG!!! I swear I just had the TIME of my LIFE @ ReggaeSumFest in JAMAICA!!!!! Jamaica I fell in love tonite! WOWWW!!!!” tweeted Minaj.
Something tells us that it would be hard for anyone to feel that bad about paying an $11 fine, especially when they have scores of fans cheering them on. –nicholas robinson
