‘Shark Night 3D’ Star Sinqua Walls Talks Art, Music, and His New Blockbuster Film

If you thought that the summer blockbuster season was over, then you may want to rethink that position. At least that was our impression after spending some time with actor Sinqua Walls, who stars in the upcoming flick Shark Night 3D. According to Walls, this nonstop thrill ride is a guaranteed hit, and one where we’d be kicking ourselves if we missed it.

Check out some of the highlights from rolling out’s exclusive interview with Walls.

So tell us about the movie.

The movie is Shark Night 3D, and it comes out Labor Day weekend. It’s a story of a group of friends who go to a summer lake house for a little vacation. Right out of the gate, my character, Malik, encounters a shark attack, and the action just keeps going from there. They have to run from the shark, there are explosions, lots of suspense, arms and heads being bitten off … there’s just a lot of crazy things happening. Malik is the glue that keeps all the friends together. He’s a fun-loving guy, he’s sympathetic to his girlfriend … he’s just a really good character. I enjoyed playing him.

When did you first fall in love with acting?

I fell in love with the art of acting back when I was 10 years old actually. I took a drama class in elementary school, and I just remember having so much fun with it. From there, I just studied, got better as I went along, and continued to grow.

What’s on your iPod playlist leading up to a big scene?

I always choose music based on whatever the scene calls for, or whatever my mood is supposed to be. Since Shark Night 3D was really intense, I was bumping Lil Wayne, Drake and DJ Khaled. I also had a mix of Eminem because of all of the passion that he puts in his music.

So why should our audience go see Shark Night 3D?

The audience should go out and see Shark Night 3D because you can bring your whole family. This is for kids; it’s for adults; it’s action packed; it’s suspense; it’s a thriller … it’s the best way to go spend your Labor Day weekend. I believe it’s one of the last hot movies of the summer, so you don’t want to miss out.

Shark Night 3D hits theaters nationwide Sept. 2.
