Nas Misses Amy Winehouse: ‘I Wish She Was Here Today’

Before Amy Winehouse’s untimely passing, last month, the soulful British singer garnered a bevy of friends in the hip-hop community, including Salaam Remi, Ghostface Killah, Rah Digga and Mark Ronson. And now another of Winehouse’s rap buddies, Nas, has opened up about his friendship with the singer, calling her his “little sister,” according to RapFix Live.

“She was a genuine person,” said Nas while speaking with Rocsi on a recent episode of BET’s “106 & Park.” “She was like, real. When you talked to her, she was real. She was struggling with a lot of things in her life, but she was a real artist. She was like a sister to me, like a little sister. We had the same birthday so she just had this big, big spirit for this little body. You know what I mean? I wish she was here today, man. God bless her soul.”

Winehouse sang of her adoration for Nas on her 2006 song “Me & Mr. Jones,” melodically chastising a flaky lover for making her miss a Nas concert.

“Nobody stands in between me and my man/’Cause it’s Me and Mr. Jones (Me and Mr Jones),” sang Winehouse on the Back to Black track.

Hearing Nas speak of Winehouse makes us wonder what could have been had the two artists collaborated on the Winehouse’s incomplete final album. Sadly, the world will never know, but at least Winehouse’s beloved Mr. Jones is bringing light to her name. –nicholas robinson
