Tell me about your background.
“I began my career as a teen writer for my hometown paper The Virginian Pilot.  At the age of 15 I was interviewing celebrities like R&B singer Tyreese and Nicole Ray.”  While in college Thysha continued to develop her skills as a writer and embraced leadership positions, thereby becoming the Editor-in-Chief of her University Newspaper, The Virginia Statesman.

How did you decide to enter into the Communications business?
“I always enjoyed mass media, newspapers, magazines, news shows, but while working for NBC and later with Noelle-Elaine Media, Inc. I found my passion for the business of public relations.”  I realized that I had a keen sense of the science of public relations, who would be appealing to what outlet, etc. I felt so comfortable pitching, writing and devising media campaigns.”

What strategies did you use to grow your company?
“Well we continue to learn and grow so we are always learning and developing new strategies, but one strategy that I try to implement is good-old fashion hard work.  If a client has a need or a want we will stop at nothing to make it happen.”

What were some of the challenges you encounter as a business owner?
“There are daily challenges as an entrepreneur. Balance, new business, building valuable relationships, deadlines —the list goes on (she says with a laugh).  The key is staying true to the purpose.  In the midst of busy days and demanding itineraries the goal of Shabazz Communications is to get our clients the coverage they deserve and we remember that in those moments.”

What advice would you give new entrepreneurs?
“Find your purpose. You have to know why you are doing something before you can do it well.”
