Rust College, a private HBCU (Historically Black College or University) located in Holly Springs, Miss., celebrated its eighth annual Mass Communications Week recently. Zondra Hughes, deputy editor of rolling out, and an alumnus of Rust College, conducted a creative writing seminar for the journalism students and gifted several with rolling out paraphernalia, copies of the publication and a positive message from the magazine’s publisher, Munson Steed. Hughes challenged the students to complete their memoir outlines within four weeks, and also delivered the keynote address to the entire student body.
Ida B. Wells, civil rights activist and the first African American female journalist, also graduated from Rust College.
