Shawty Redd Found Not Guilty of Murder; 5 Rappers Who Have Faced Murder Charges

Shawty Redd’s career almost came to an end. The producer who crafted hits for Rick Ross, Young Jeezy and Gucci Mane faced years in prison after being charged with murder. On New Year’s Eve 2010, Shawty Redd, whose real name is Demetrius Lee Stewart, threw a house party at his home and  killed Damon A. Martin after an argument.

After months of investigating, Henry County judge Wade Crumbley found that Stewart acted in self-defense and found him not guilty of murder. Unfortunately, Shawty Redd isn’t the only hip-hop producer or rapper to face murder chargers. The thin line between creating music based on criminal activity and committing a crime is often blurred.
