Heavy D, The Overweight Lover, Was an Undervalued Legend; 10 Most Forgotten Rap Icons

The only musical genre that treats its heroes and legends like Haitian refugees, who get turned away from America’s shores, is the rap category. It is repugnant to watch as current superstars and executives toss aside these foundation builders like stadium hotdog wrappers to twist in the wind of obscurity and nothingness.

In fact, listen to any R&B station and you’ll often hear the likes of Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, old Whitney, Anita Baker, anything from Motown as well as Earth, Wind & Fire, and definitely Michael Jackson and Prince. Their records are 30, 40 and 50 years old. Every other genre pays the ultimate homage to their megastars.
