In the wake of Heavy D’s tragic death last week, funeral arrangements are underway for the iconic emcee. According to reports, Heavy D. will be laid to rest in a very private and intimate ceremony with close friends and family on Friday, Nov. 18 in the New York City area.
According to TMZ, Heavy’s family has arranged a public viewing on Thursday for any and all fans to pay their final respects to the beloved rapper, born Dwight Arrington Myers.
However, Heavy’s burial service will be invite only, with the guest list including a number of Heavy’s notable celebrity friends, like his Uptown Records comrades Diddy and Mary J. Blige, the Wayans Bros, who called on him to pen the theme song to their famous “In Living Color” sketch-comedy series, and the surviving members of Heavy D and The Boyz, DJ Eddie F and dancer G-Wiz.
Last week, Eddie F spoke to MTV News about the passing of his musical kin, telling the site, “We always had so much fun as a group. We were only young kids out of high school when we got into the game, just wanting to make fun music filled with love and excitement. I will miss my brother Heavy so much and I cherish all the happy times we had together while unknowingly helping to build the movement and legacy we call Uptown Records. I can see him and T-Roy clowning right now and smiling down on us sitting on a cloud. I love you Hev and we all will miss you so much.”
Heavy D tragically passed away on Nov. 8 after collapsing at his Beverly Hills, Calif., home while complaining of breathing difficulties. He was suffering from pneumonia at the time of his death and though an autopsy has been performed, a Los Angeles coroner claims that the cause of Heavy’s death will be revealed after a toxicology test is completed. –nicholas robinson
