In 2006, Irv Gotti had everyone scratching their heads when he signed struggling pop singer Vanessa Carlton to The Inc. Though the hip-hop maestro had hoped to achieve pop success with Carlton’s 2007 album, Heroes & Thieves, the record tanked and Carlton left the label in 2008.
