Drama, drama, drama and more drama, every day. But drama in the theater of life, just does not pay. The creation of DJ Drama’s brand is like a fast moving vehicle on the industry highway. Drama, who is spinning the gangsta life on the ones and twos, is simultaneously paving a very successful entertainment byway.
I was proud to meet this brother, this father, this man — the people’s deejay. It was even more apropos that the controversial content that has been used — and sometimes abused by hip-hop artists and creatives of the day, but DJ Drama stayed ahead of the game and above the fray.
Information is integral in developing the skill sets these artists employ in unique and special ways. In this music and entertainment industry it is essential in navigating the waters and establishing who you choose to be. You must have knowledge regarding making a mark, building a brand and completing the journey on which you embark.
To convince the world and record companies that they should play your song, is something many dream of and work for their whole life long. To get the music heard and embraced by the fans moving and dancing in throngs, is where one can ill-afford to go wrong.
To grasp that you can get paid for delivering to the people what they want to hear, moves you to another level, in another realm on a much higher tier. It puts you in the category to score a big win, but you have to keep it together and stand above other men.
When I was presented with the idea of DJ Drama and 2 Chainz on the cover this week, I thought what more opportune time to explore the profession and the deejaying technique. These are the people who know the music and what sounds to combine, and who to turn their oft-touted brands and taglines into the embodiment of major dollar signs.
Personally, I’m proud of Drama and Chainz and how they’ve chosen to make their way, making a cacophony of sound and musical cache. There are things that I don’t have to agree with, but we are brothers in creativity and defying the myth. Gangsta Grillz was a brilliant notion that has matured and flourished, and now it takes talent to keep the machine oiled and well nourished.
But while preparing for rolling out’s cover, I passed by my office and stopped at the photo shoot, and what was most impressive is that even while working, he was still a proud father, standing erect and astute. The sight of his young daughter on the scene with her father, was a heartwarming moment, pure and pristine. Drama does not shirk his parental responsibility, and I applaud him for both his professional and personal sensibility.
2 Chainz is well on his way and climbing the charts, so my congrats to him for mastering this sometimes complicated art. So for others who aspire to move in the circles of this strange new land, it’s imperative that they master the craft and create the brand. Drama and Chainz are living proof, that even if you don’t make the hit records, it doesn’t have to prevent you from raising the roof.
True, you may have to make changes in your associations, you may even have work harder to stave on temptation, but it’s so well worth it to realize your dreams and your aspirations. Whatever it takes to accomplish these things, I say, don’t create drama for yourself or bind yourself with the chains that land your hopes back up on the shelf.
Victory can be yours as long as you prepare, plan and do the work to get there. Be conscientious and acutely aware, that when you look at this extremely successful pair, pay homage to the grind and do it with flair.
Peace.
