A capacity crowd of female entrepreneurs, students, and those transitioning in their careers attended The Steed Society and rolling out’s Female Success Factor: The Digital S.H.E. held at Chicago’s swanky (and black-owned) Society Art Gallery. The free event was sponsored by U.S. Cellular.
In his opening remarks rolling out publisher Munson Steed advised women to focus on where they want to be in their lives, their careers and the future.
Speakers included Tragil Wade, president of The Wade’s World Foundation and sister of NBA superstar Dwyane Wade; Rita Coburn Whack, owner of RCW Productions Inc. and a three-time Emmy-winning television and radio producer, (Harpo Studios)’ and Michele Thornton, CNN’s director of multicultural ad sales.
Wade, who hails from one of Chicago’s toughest neighborhoods, encouraged women to see beyond their circumstances. Thornton advised women that it’s never too late to re-brand themselves, and Whack stated that multiculturalism is vital to your success, “The leaders of the industry will be the people who can connect across cultures now,” she said.
The second panel featured digital divas — women who have crafted a viable business model online. The digital divas included Lutonya M. Lang of Industry Buzzz; Stephanie Green of Soleil’s To-Dos, and Cynthia Boykin of WhatUNeedIs.
Christina Steed, senior VP, Flowers Communications Group, moderated the event; and rolling out deputy editor, Zondra Hughes, produced and hosted the event.
