While at Tuskegee, Tom Joyner joined a new band called The Commodore (you might have heard of them) with Lionel Richie as the lead signer. Joyner quit before they became famous and most would have seen this as a career blunder. But fate had something more in store for the enterprising Joyner. A protest about the lack of black radio programming led Joyner to becoming a fly jock. And the rest, as they say is history.
