Surprise! You have feelings for your Booty Call.
The Booty Call, that dip that you connect with late at night, (perhaps after a long, winding date with someone who isn’t ready to become intimate with you yet), is high on passion and low on emotion, according to a study conducted by Peter Jonason, formerly a psychologist at the University of West Florida, now a professor at the University of South Alabama.
Jonason and his researchers studied 300 college-age adults who were involved in various types of relationships; surprisingly, the booty call relationship isn’t sex-only as believed, there is a fair share of emotional attachment involved between the lovers. One more fact, according to the study: “As for the sex lives of booty call participants, they do more in various ways, and are more adventurous than one-night stands.”
However, the booty call relationship is not as emotional as the long-term relationships, of course, and is distinct from long-term relationships and one-night stands as well. The Booty Call is in a league by itself.
“Booty call was a hybrid,” said Jonason. “We positioned it mostly in the middle [of sexual and romantic relationships], but we positioned it mostly on the side of sex.”
The study involved 123 college students who had been involved in booty call relationship the previous year and compared those students with 97 students who had been in long-term relationships, and 69 students who had one-night stands. The students surveyed overwhelmingly identified themselves as heterosexual.
These students answered online surveys where certain acts (such as hugging or kissing) were considered emotionally driven, and sex acts were considered sexually driven. The study found that sexually-driven contact and acts were more common in booty calls (when compared to long-term relationships), and emotionally driven contact was less common.
Surprise! The researchers also found that repeated intimate contact with your booty call, will lead to a need for more variety, and that explains why you will have a better time than the one-night stand.
