Martin’s Father Reaches Out To Dads

The father of the unarmed 17-year-old whose murder has made headlines is issuing a special message to fathers this holiday weekend. Tracy Martin, the grieving father of Trayvon Martin, has released a video asking dads nationwide to lobby for a re-evaluation of Stand Your Ground laws. Stand Your Grand laws allow an individual to use deadly force if they feel threatened and are also what lawyers for neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman hope will clear him of a conviction.

“I’’m Tracy Martin,” said the dad in the video. “Becoming a Father is a special gift; it’s a miracle of love and an everyday reminder that life can be beautiful. But this Father’s Day will be the first without my son Trayvon.” 

Martin’s ex-wife Sybrina Fulton sent out a similar message for Mother’s Day also asking for a re-evaluation of the laws that might clear her son’s killer.

Since Trayvon’s February death, Martin has founded JusticeTM.org a foundation dedicated to not only bringing justice to Trayvon’s killer but to amend Stand Your Ground laws nationwide.
