Top 5 New Orleans Cocktails; Guide for Super Bowl XLVII

Vieux Carré

Named after New Orleans’s French Quarter (a.k.a. Vieux Carré), this drink is as representative of the city as the neighborhood. And, like the French Quarter, it’s strong, fun, and a little bit crazy. A main ingredient is Bénédictine D.O.M., a golden liqueur first produced by Benedictine monks in the 16th century, which adds a sweet, aromatic flavor to cocktails

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 ounce rye whiskey
  • 1/2 ounce Cognac
  • 1/2 ounce sweet vermouth
  • 4 dashes Bénédictine D.O.M.
  • 2 dashes Peychaud’s Bitters
  • 2 dashes angostura bitters
  • Ice
  • Lemon twist, for garnish
  • INSTRUCTIONS
Combine the whiskey, Cognac, vermouth, Bénédictine D.O.M., and both bitters in a cocktail mixer.
    Fill with ice.
Stir until chilled through, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
Garnish with a lemon twist and serve.
