Initial Rise Due to Opponent’s Sex Scandal
Back in 2004, Barack Obama, who was an unknown outside of his household, decided to run for the Illinois Senate. A virtual underdog, Obama’s path was paved after Republican Jack Ryan was forced to drop out of the race after his ex-wife revealed a sex scandal. Obama eventually won the seat and became an up and coming political star.
