Burruss was very successful as a songwriter and she went on to win several awards for her songwriting. Among her successes were the hit “No Scrubs” for TLC, “Bug a Boo,” “Bills, Bills, Bills,” and “The Writings on the Wall,” for Destiny’s child. She wrote songs for many recording artists, including Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys, Usher, and others. She won a Grammy for songwriting for the TLC song “No Scrubs” and she also became the first African American female to ever win ASCAP’s prestigious songwriter of the year in 2000. She was also the executive producer and did the rewrites for Kim Zolciak, her fellow cast member from the “Real Housewives of Atlanta,” with her song, “Tardy for the Party.”
