Allen Iverson’s NBA career may be a thing of thing of legend, but his track record as a parent is reportedly far from spotless. An Atlanta judge recently deemed the former NBA star an unfit parent for his five children with ex-wife, Tawanna Iverson.
According to TMZ, Iverson and Tawanna recently finalized their divorce, but in the final divorce decree, the judge writes a scathing review about Iverson’s paternal skills.
“[Iverson] does not know how to manage the children; has little interest in learning to manage the children and has actually, at times, been a hindrance to their spiritual and emotional growth and development.
“For example, he has refused to attend to an obvious and serious alcohol problem, which has caused him to do inappropriate things in the presence of the children while impaired.
“He has left the children alone without supervision. He has left his young daughters in a hotel room with men who are unknown to the mother,” wrote the judge.
Unsurprisingly, Tawanna was awarded legal and physical custody of their kids, while Iverson was granted visitation rights on a conditional basis.
In order to see his kids, Iverson must stop drinking alcohol for the next 18 months, and until all of his kids are 18 years old, he mustn’t consume any alcohol within 24 hours of visiting them. Iverson must also see a therapist and attend AA meetings for a year.
