After being virtually absent on the scene for years, Brooklyn rapper Lil Mama, 23, is causing a stir now that she’s been announced as the woman to portray Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, the fallen member of ’90s R&B group TLC.

News of Mama’s casting was first confirmed by fellow rapper MC Lyte who couldn’t control her excitement and tipped off HipHollywood. “I don’t know if I’m supposed to say, but I will,” said Lyte.”She [Lil Mama]  just got the role of Left Eye in TLC’s new movie. I am so excited for her. She is a talented young lady. So I want to see her do some beautiful things.”

And since fans caught wind of Mama’s casting there’s been mixed emotions, with several wondering if she’ll do the pint-sized rapper justice and others highly anticipating her performance. Both sides have been very vocal on the news.

“I’m not sure how I feel about Lil Mama playing Left Eye … Whatever this feeling is, it isn’t a good one,” wrote a fan on Twitter.

“Lil Mama is gonna play #LeftEye in TLC’s Biopic movie! You know I will be watching that for sure. keep it up woman!!” added another.

The rapper has since sent out a tweet to her supporters thanking them for their congratulatory messages.

In addition to a biopic, the surviving members of TLC T-Boz and Chilli are said to be planning a possible album and reunion tour, one that would feature a holographic image of Left Eye.
