Kandi Burruss explains why she’s against an Xscape reunion

As a number of fans await this weekend’s So So Def Reunion, one of the famed members of Xscape is explaining why she won’t be hitting the stage. Kandi Burruss, who led the group in the ’90s, stopped by V-103 Wednesday to promote her “Kandi Koated Nights” U-Stream series. While there, however, Big Tigga asked if she would be willing to reunite with her former bandmates.

“I don’t think it’s just an issue with me and Tocha [Scott], it’s the whole group,” said Burruss. “I don’t really wanna have that conversation right now, I don’t wanna feel like ‘oh we’re talking because you want me to do something this week.’ Like if you really wanna fix the situation or have a real conversation then, OK.”

And when asked directly if there was any hope that she’d make a surprise appearance at the forthcoming show, Kandi politely stated that she’d be unavailable. “I have a prior engagement,” said Kandi. “I ‘m heading to Baton Rouge, [La.], I have to speak at a college. No, I will not be running back, I’m sorry. They don’t need me for the show, they’ve done the show without me before.”

Prior to Burruss shooting down reunion rumors, Xscape’s LaTocha Scott told Egypt Sherrod that she doesn’t understand Kandi’s reasoning and urged her to reconsider for the fans’ sake.

“The only unfinished business I can think of is the fact that we didn’t go onto the other albums that we were supposed to do. Other than that, I don’t understand where the unfinished business comes in at,” said Scott. “I don’t know what she’s talking about. I think we owe it to the fans, to the people. They put us all here … This whole 20 year reunion is big for me, but to say you’re not going to do it because you feel like we have unfinished business is … I don’t want to say it’s insulting to the fans, but it’s like come on, it’s not even about that. Let’s get out of self and let’s think about what we did for music.”

Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def reunion will take place Saturday, Feb. 23 at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre. Confirmed acts include Da Brat, Kriss Kross and Jagged Edge. There are also rumors that Mariah Carey will make a surprise appearance.  –danielle canada
