Team Usher

Usher is one heck of a coach or as Carson Daly put it, “The Floyd Mayweather of coaches.” As a performer, Usher is trying to teach his group just how important it is to be able to entertain and sing at the same time. Taking them to the gym to rehearse while working out helped them appreciate just how difficult the task can be.

As a group they performed, “Black and Gold,” by Sam Sparro.

Josiah Hawley picked up his electric guitar for Muse’s “Starlight.” “That performance was haunting and energetic,” said Shelton. “I think the world is gonna lose a male model for this — I guess I’ll have to fill in!”

Usher gave Cathia Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing.” She did it with much confidence and wowed the audience. Yet her former coach, Shakira, questioned the song choice. “Taking a Whitney Houston song is like stepping on holy ground,” she said.

Usher assigned Phil Collins’ “Against All Odds” to Vedo taking him out of his comfort zone. “There’s only thing that I don’t like about you — that you’re not on my team!” said Levine.

Repping the nerds,  Michelle Chamuel was forced to sing Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors” into a mirror during rehearsals. This really helped her prepare for her stage performance. “Who we are onstage is who we are in life,” said Shakira, as the other judges acknowledged the performance as her breakout moment of the season. “Tonight, you made a connection to the world that we’ll never forget,” said Usher.
