Her 10-year-old granddaughter, Ayfemi, a fourth grader at Leadership Preparatory Charter School in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, rides the “monkey” bus in the morning and the “elephant” bus in the afternoon. The animal signs system was instituted in 2006 to help students identify which bus to take to get to and from school.
