Kelly Rowland shocked fans across the globe when she debuted her candid and revealing new song, “Dirty Laundry,” in which she touches upon her envy of Beyoncé as well as a previous abusive relationship. Since then the singer has been mum about her abusive past, leaving many fans to speculate about who her abusive man was. Although Rowland is still not revealing his identity, she recently shared more info on the details of her abuse.
In the song, Rowland opens up like never before and describes the abuse she endured with her ex.
“I was battered / He hitting the window like it was me, until it shattered / He pulled me out, he said, ‘Don’t nobody love you but me / Not your mama, not your daddy and especially not Bey,’” sang Rowland.
In an interview with omg! Insider, Rowland claims that the relationship was mainly emotionally abusive. Though she was hurt by her former flame, she claims that she’s learned to forgive him.
“A piece of me would just go away every time he would say something,” she said. “I’ll never forget those things. I’ll forgive him … he’s a different person now but it was things to tear me down as a person, as a woman.”
She added: “I was just so young and allowed him to do those things to me.”
We’re glad that Rowland has reached a place in her personal journey where she can open up about her abusive past. Hopefully, her story will allow others to make peace with their own rocky pasts, or leave their abusive relationships, as well.
