Usher and Kendrick Lamar were both honored at the 2013 ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards in Los Angeles.
Usher received the coveted Golden Note Award. Presented to Usher by Diddy Combs, past recipients of the award include Quincy Jones, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, and Pharrell Williams.
Kendrick Lamar received the Vanguard Award which was presented by Dr. Dre. A rapper/producer who helped put Compton on the hip-hop map during the ’80s, Dr. Dre pointed out how Kendrick Lamar represents the future of rap. “I’m proud to know him. I’m proud to work with him and he is an important part of the new generation of hip-hop, and it’s definitely continuing the legacy of Compton.”
