Pete Townshend’s ambitions were beginning to wear on the rest of the band. He’d approached them to record a multi-media project called “Lifehouse,” but after frustrations arose, decided to scrap the idea and cobble together the better tracks into a new, unrelated album. That “pieced-together” album became a classic rock mainstay and the best-selling album The Who ever released.
