While the new school year has arrived, with some students already back in classes, parents will be glad to know that Georgia is participating in the tax-free weekend once again this year. The dates for this year’s tax-free shopping are August 9 – 10. The two days of tax-free shopping includes many common items that all children need to return to school, pen, paper, notebooks, clothes and shoes. With a number of Georgia’s school offering free Wi-Fi in schools as the state kicks off the e-learning initiative, many students will also need tablets or laptops for everyday in class use.
What items are tax-free?
• Clothing (including footwear) with a sales price of $100.00 or less per item.
• Personal computers and personal computer-related accessories are included if each item is less than $1,000.
• General school supplies used in the classroom or in classroom-related activities with a sales price of $20.00 or less per item.
Be sure to know exactly what is on the list and was items are not included in the tax-free weekend before heading out to stores.

Televisions
Surge Protectors
Computer games and gaming systems
MP3 Players
Books (except children’s books, dictionaries, and thesauruses)
