Legend hopes to bring the focus of love and respect back to music with his latest album, Love in the Future.

“The album is about starting a new [love] and beginning something you feel optimistic about.” he says. “You know there [are] going to be ups and downs, but you have a feeling that you’re embarking on something special. That title represents where I am in life.”

Legend’s excitement about the future includes the new album and branching out into business opportunities. Legend partnered with Chevy for the marketing campaign of the 2014 Impala. The campaign has allowed Legend to align himself with a classic brand and for his core audience to see him in a different light.

Legend  is also excited about his upcoming wedding to longtime girlfriend, model Chrissy Teigen. The two will wed in the fall after being engaged since 2011. But while fairy-tale endings are hopeful, Legend understands that love can be complex.

“Nothing will be perfect,” he admits. “I know that our marriage will not be perfect, but I feel good about it. I think you should treat people how you want to be treated, no matter what kind of relationship you are in. It’s not that complicated. Everyone is selfish to a degree, we all have our own desires and we mess up in life. But the key to being in a good relationship is knowing how to listen and figuring out a way to not be selfish all of the time.”
