BlackBerry will soon be cutting up to 4,500 jobs, which is 40 percent of its total workforce and forced to write off more than $900-million worth of unsold phones.
BlackBerry recently tried to revamp its company and phones this year with the release of new phones such as the Blackberry Q10 ad Blackberry Z10.
“We are implementing the difficult, but necessary operational changes announced today to address our position in a maturing and more competitive industry, and to drive the company toward profitability,” chief executive officer Thorsten Heins said in a statement.
High returns — as much as 20 percent of the new released Blackberry models in the United States and Western Europe — play a major role in the company’s decision to cut jobs. The announcement comes on the same day that Apple released their two new iPhones, the 5c and 5s.
