Toya Wright hits the “D” with Rolling Out

On Thursday, Sep. 26, 2013, New York Times bestselling author and reality TV star Toya Wright and rolling out hit the city of Detroit to support the Detroit Recovery Project’s VIP Status Program, an HIV awareness and testing initiative. A diva in her own right, she was glammed as always and ready to inspire as she delivered a sensational speech to college students at Davenport University and Wayne State University. Toya was very candid but also very warm, welcoming and real. As she unveiled her life story, journey to success, motherhood, and marriage experiences, she dropped a few golden nuggets for students to carry with them on their own personal journeys, one of which happened to be her favorite quote, “Nothing beats failure but a try.” Toya also encouraged students to “Know their status,” a campaign she supports for HIV testing and awareness.

She touched on the subject to know your mental health and financial statuses as well. The students were very excited to have the opportunity to be enlightened by Toya and definitely appreciated her authenticity. Detroiters look forward to seeing more of this rising star. Be sure to check out the video footage of the event. –tiana dudley
