Facebook removing search by name privacy setting

Facebook-privacy

Facebook is removing a privacy setting as they promised to do last year.

While many believed that they were private and unsearchable to the world, there have been lots of ways to navigate to private profiles. People could access your profile by simply clicking your name on a photo you’re tagged in, finding your name in a friend’s friend list, or combing through Likes on a mutual friend’s News Feed post.

The popular social network announced in December that it was retiring the option for users to control whether they show up when others type their name into the search bar, but said Thursday that it would finally be notifying those who use it that the setting will be removed. The option, which shows up in privacy settings as “Who can look up your timeline by name?” was already cut for people who weren’t using it.

Many use the social network to keep in touch with old friends and relatives that may be scattered across the world; however, with so many pedophiles and mentally unstable individuals out there you have to wonder if this is a smart move. The only options that will keep the unwanted people away from your profile will be to block individuals or discontinue using Facebook.
