The seventh president of the Atlanta City Council, Ceasar Mitchell isn’t shy about telling you he’s one of Atlanta’s native sons. The son of an Atlanta Police officer and Atlanta Public Schools teacher and a graduate of Benjamin E. Mays High School, Mitchell says his parents “instilled in him the value of public service.”

He goes on to say, “I envisioned as a young man that I could become part of making Atlanta a greater place to live, work, play, learn and love.” Mitchell was first elected to the Atlanta City Council in 2001 and served for eight years as a Citywide Post 1 Councilmember, where he stepped up his efforts to make Atlanta clean, green, safe and thriving by creating a Parks Advisory Group to provide recommendations for Atlanta to achieve and sustain a world-class parks and recreation system with a governance structure in 2004.

“I advocated for safer communities, police foot patrols and reduced truancy,” he adds.

Mitchell also championed key legislation facilitating economic revitalization in underdeveloped areas by authoring measures to create four of the city’s10 Tax Allocation Districts and supporting legislation for community input in the Beltline Project, and “attracting businesses and high quality jobs to communities in need.”

He continues, “In the past four years, I have provided leadership in budget review, pension reform and made our City Council more efficient and transparent. I also established a clean, green team to help community groups improve their neighborhoods one block at a time.”

As founder of the College Prep Series, Mitchell proudly shares, “[It] has helped more than 5,000 middle and high school students and their parents.”

Mitchell graduated Morehouse College with dual majors in Economics and English and earned his law degree at the University of Georgia’s School of Law where he served on the International Law Journal and won a national moot court championship in constitutional law. Mitchell and his wife, Dr. Tiffany Mitchell are the proud parents to their daughters, Canon and Czarya.

The election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013.
