Stop-and-Frisk laws in New York City, ending or continuing? Democrat Bill de Blasio was elected mayor of New York, signaling a new era for a city whose new leader pledges to obliterate most of what Michael Bloomberg accomplished. De Blasio has vowed to narrow the gap between the rich and poor and also reform controversial policing tactics, including the reviled and highly-controversial “Stop-and-Frisk” laws that seemed to target African Americans and other minorities. de Blasio is the first Democrat elected mayor of the nation’s largest city since David Dinkins beat Rudy Giuliani in 1989. Political pundits believed that if the “Stop-and-Frisk” laws are supported in New York, it will begin a frightening trend that would be duplicated in major metropolises around the country with large minority populations.
