De Blasio managed Hillary Clinton’s successful 2000 run for the U.S. Senate. He served as a member of city council for eight years representing the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Borough Park, Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Gowanus, Kensington, Park Slope and Windsor Terrace. He became New York City’s third Public Advocate on Jan. 1, 2010. It’s the city’s second-highest elected office.
The couple has two children: daughter, Chiara, and son, Dante.
