‘Odysella: Empress of Nar’ by Shirley Hardy-Leonard

OdysellaCover1

Odysella (pronounced ahd-IS’-ella) is a futuristic tale about two young people working together to save the planet of Nar from a coup that could turn the peaceful planet into a place of chaos. The protagonist of the story is Odysella, a 23rd century farm girl thrust into her destiny as an intergalactic leader. She is joined by her friend, War B, a handsome rapper from Chicago whose group, Floss Angeles, is in the midst of a comeback tour, but ends up involved in the mission with Odysella to save her home planet Nar.

The book grew from the questions: “What if the violence against young people is not just global, but intergalactic? And how would hip-hop fit in the future since critics thought it would die decades ago?”

The first in a four part series, Odysella brings the past of hip-hop and politics slamming into the future with the impact of a deadly asteroid.
