AT&T has teamed up with FiLIP Technologies to use technology in hopes of keeping kids safe when they are not in the care of their parents. The FiLIP smartwatch helps parents keep track of their children.
The FiLIP smartwatch, designed  for children ages 5 through 11, combines GPS, Wi-Fi, and AT&T’s wireless network into a colorful watch that can be worn to school, the park and everywhere in between. The new smart gadget features GPS, voice calling and direct messaging that parents can control at any time through a smartphone app.
For just $10 per month as part of an AT&T Mobile Share account or standalone plan, parents have unlimited two-way voice calling so that they can talk or direct message with their children at any time.
Parents  can select up to  five trusted contacts with whom the children can communicate. The watch also allows parents to set “safe zones,” which will immediately notify the parent  if FiLIP’s GPS detects that it’s out of the designated safe zone. They will also have the ability to track the watch’s movements in real time through the app, so they can always be updated with the child’s whereabouts.
“The way that families communicate is about to change,” said Jonathan Peachey, CEO of FiLIP Technologies. “Modern parents are used to being connected but have few options when it comes to those they care about the most — their young children. Starting this Friday, parents across the country will be able to use FiLIP to stay in direct contact with their kids, either by making a phone call straight to their wrist or by simply seeing where they are on a map.”
The smartwatch is the creation of FiLIP Technologies, which teamed up with the emerging devices team at AT&T. AT&T customers can purchase FiLIP for $199.99.
