The most memorable moment at the Grammy Awards was Macklemore’s “Same Love” performance. Afterward, 33 gay couples stood in the aisles as Queen Latifah officiated their wedding ceremony live in front of tens of millions of audience and television viewers around the globe. The closing act was none other than musical legend Madonna, who also was a part of the historic moment closing out the performance with her 1986 track, “Open Your Heart.”
Queen Latifah told the press: “It was something I took very seriously, that is someone’s life commitment to one another, you want to make sure you do it right. That’s what sunk in for me. To have your wedding in front of 100 million people is pretty momentous. I can say I was here and that will not leave me. I look forward to dashing off and signing all their wedding certificates.”
