Bradd Marquis talks inspiration for new album ‘Thank You’

-2

Do you think that there are any widely held misconceptions about music and/or musicians? If so, what are they and how do you work to dispel them?
The misconception is that there aren’t any good artists out there. Platforms are sticking to the top 10 and top 20 and not allowing newer artist unsigned artist or even signed artist to break in. Good music is out there if you know where to look for it. The old school people don’t look for it where the young people look for it. Their waiting for it to come on the radio or video station that their use to watching, where the young people sit on the internet all day on sites like You Tube, Spotify or Pandora searching for music.

What role does technology play in your day-to-day life? How do you utilize it?
Technology has made my career. I started my career from the comfort of my home via the internet. Producers send me tracks for new music, I write and record it and send it back. After it’s done, I market and promote it using social media and blog sites.

If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?
Positivity in general. More communities where people working together to build something great as opposed to everyone being individualized. Seems like a lot of people are out for themselves these days.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
My patience and I want to play an instrument

What does it take to be iconic? In your estimation, who has achieved that status?
Great songs are what it takes to be iconic, songs that resonate melodically and musically. Prince, Mary J Blige, Aretha Franklin and Beyoncé have achieved it. I think Kanye, Jay Z and Justin Timberlake are pushing that envelope. Longevity has a lot to do with it. I feel like you should have more than four or five years in the game before receiving an ‘icon award.’

Where can listeners buy your music?
Amazon, iTunes, Spotify, my website and independent record stores
